No. 11 - Paris '87

The great exhibition organized by Cartier

An ultramodern Ferrari Testarossa and a 1975 312T are just part of the "Hommage a Ferrari" exhibition organised by Cartier.

Here they are photographed in front of one of the most original works in the park, which goes by the name "Long Term Parking". Created by Arman in 1982, it is made up of 56 cars fixed in a concrete tower 18 metres high.

Ferrari and Cartier. The famous French jeweller has been producing quality products bearing the "Ferrari Formula" label for a number of years. To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Enzo Ferrari's involvement in car manufacturing in a manner worthy of his name, Cartier, through the Cartier Foundation, has staged an exhibition entitled "Hommage a Ferrari" in a splendid park just outside Paris. In terms of the cars on show and of the setting chosen, it is certain to go down in the manuals of the history of the car industry as representing the highest level of artistic expression.

Open from 22 May to 30 August the exhibition is amply illustrated in this issue of Ferrari Story.

No. 12 - F40

Complete description of the 40th anniversary type

The cover photo shows the new Ferrari type F40 totally immersed in the natural surroundings, between grass and sky: it has been photographed the day of its presentation on the Fiorano test track.

Ferrari 40 years: this is the meaning of the name given to the new car shown during the press preview on July 21 and to the international public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Much has changed in the motor car's technology during these four decades and certainly some of these changes have been prompted by the Ferrari, by its sporting activity and its uncompromising search for the best.

The search initiated in 1947 when the daring choice of a 12 cylinders engine for a small sports car was made, showing how far Enzo Ferrari was aiming.

No. 13 - Quarant'anni

Condensed history of the marque

Birthday party

This issue is dedicated to the Party held to mark the 40 years of activity by Ferrari and the cover shows one of the many interesting aspects of it.

The photographs of the reunion at Imola are the work of the group of enthusiasts, led by Carlo Lenti, who are listed in alphabetical order: Aropa, Avanzini, Barberi, Cavagnolo, Lunati, Maranzana, Morra and Ricci.

Ferrari: from the name, to the make, to the myth, all by way of the races. Such is the significance of this historic commemoration which, in this issue, retraces the principal moments in the 40 years of activity of a company which during this time has built 45 thousand exceptional cars.

No other make bears such a strong imprint of its founder and no other factory or team has uninterruptedly remained so active in competition like this company, gaining many victories.

These are the reasons for the extraordinary interest aroused by Ferrari of every era and at every level so that everything connected with this make turns out to be inimitable and unrepeatable.

No. 14 - Enzo

Dedicated to Ferrari, his birthplace, his life

In this issue there are two parts: the first and last 16 pages in colour, are dedicated to the birthday party for the 90 years of Enzo Ferrari and some aspects of house in Modena where he was born: the inside 16 pages are a portfolio of the most significant pictures of mr. Ferrari, some never published before, like the cover one, which was taken before 1965. The back cover shows the scuderia emblem that graces both sides of the GTO.

Ferrari 90: the motoring World (and also the rest) has celebrated on February 18th yet another and much admired succes of Enzo Ferrari: his ninetieth birthday: it is no exaggeration to say thay rivers of ink have been used to print the millions of copies of newspapers and magazines, books and special issues devoted to the event.

Luckily the history of the marque and of its founder is so vast that is requires still a lot of research work, and this is exactly what this magazine will continue to do.

No. 15 - Addio al compressore

When Ferrari switched from type 125 to 375

The cover of this issue shows two pictures of the double supercharger of the F1 125 racing car of 1949 which was abandoned in favour of the normally aspired type 375. In the following pages the latter car is described and illustrated with photos of the following files: Mailander (now Ludvigsen), Bertazzini, Goddard, Pirelli, Millante, Mantovani and those made in recent times by the author.

Ferrari is a maker of the motor car history rather than a simle participant: in 1950 his decision of adopting the normally aspired engine not only did change the meaning of Formula 1, but rendered it obsolete before the programmed date. Even today 90 Enzo Ferrari not only controls the automobile sport but influences the design of the new production models of his Company which in the constant evolution keep the essential lines of his philosophy.
